Election Nominations open 23 July
The nomination period for Local Government Elections 2004 opens on July 23.
Being nominated is the first step in the election process – unless a candidate is nominated they cannot be elected.
To assist those interested in standing at the election the Council’s Election Team, with the assistance of the District Health Board, will be holding Candidate Information evenings on 19, 20 and 22 July. Being held in the Council Chamber the evenings will introduce the rules governing the election process and the expectations of the roles to candidates.
Those aspiring to the positions of Mayor, Councillor or Community Board member have until 12.00 noon 20 August to have their nomination forms into the Council. The Council is also managing the elections for the Manukau constituency of Auckland Regional Council, the Counties Manukau District Health Board and three Licensing Trusts – Wiri, Otara and Papatoetoe,
Official nomination forms are available from the Council’s Civic Building or by ringing the Election Team on 263 7100. The forms should be delivered back to the Council in person as there are a number of checks that must be made before they are officially accepted.
Candidate Information Packs are available from the Council either from the main reception in the Civic Building or by ringing 263 7100 and asking for the Election Team.
