Revamp of K’Road set to continue
Karangahape Road’s main strip is getting an overhaul to keep it looking as sharp as the rest of the street, with work
starting on 5 July.
The upgrade will be a continuation of improvements made in 2003 to the western end of K’Road. The area between Pitt
Street and the motorway overbridge is set to get new foothpaths and seats as well as new planting, including mature
Nikau palms.
Auckland City’s project manager, Cameron Rennie, says the aim of the upgrade is to improve the street environment of
K’Road. “We want to enhance the unique identity of the popular strip while also improving facilities for both shoppers
and businesses. Ultimately we want to make it great place to live, work and shop.”
The work should be contained to the footpaths, with little disruption to traffic lanes. Work is expected to be completed
by October 2004.
The upgrade is part of the council’s Auckland CBD Into the future strategy to revitalise Auckland’s CBD into one of the
world’s most vibrant and dynamic business and cultural centres.
