Local event funding boost citywide
Auckland City’s 10 community boards will benefit from a $100,000 shot in the arm for their local events.
The council’s Recreation and Events Committee allocated $5,000 funding to each of the community boards at their meeting on 3 June. At the Combined Committees meeting on Wednesday 23 June councillors voted to provide a further top-up of $5,000 per area for local events.
Council is now working on the best way for the funding to be administered.
The additional funding will assist community boards to identify the unique needs of their own communities and provide events with a local flavour.
Councillor Scott Milne, chairperson of the Recreation and Events Committee, says that getting people involved in their local events and activities is integral to building community spirit and making Auckland a vibrant and exciting place to live.
“Community boards have their finger on the local pulse and we want to financially empower them to give the people what they want.”
