Tender let for part of Christchurch Cathedral Square road works
Christchurch City Council has awarded Works Infrastructure a tender to do road works on the section of Worcester Street between Oxford Terrace and Cathedral Square and expects the contractor to start on Monday, 28 June.
The $270,000 contract is part of a redesign of the roadway through the Square’s north-west corner. Earlier this month a special council committee agreed on a partial two-way design which it plans to have completed by Show Weekend.
“To give us the very best chance of meeting that 12 November target, we’ve split the work,” says council project manager Ross Herrett. “Works Infrastructure will be getting on with Worcester Street while we’re completing the design of the Cathedral Square section.”
While the construction work is being done, traffic will be restricted to a single lane, running into the Square from the west. Business operators, property owners and other people who are frequent users have been invited to a meeting on Thursday, 24 June, so staff from the contractor can explain their works programme.
