Artworks in Public Places Five-Year Plan (draft) out for community consultation
A formal process for identifying public artworks opportunities for Christchurch, and prioritising them, has been
released for public consultation.
Christchurch City Council has allocated $250,000 per year for the next three years, to assist in the provision of
artworks in public places. The final Artworks in Public Places Five-Year Plan will help it plan how to allocate this
funding.
Artworks in public places are works of art created for, or located in, part of a public space or facility and are
accessible to members of the public. Public artworks include works of a permanent or temporary nature located in the
public domain. They include urban and environmental artworks, integrated artworks and community artworks.
The draft plan lists a set of criteria to be used as a guide for prioritising artwork opportunities, for making funding
allocations and for locating public artworks. The final plan will be used by the Council’s Arts, Culture and Heritage
Committee, and by Council staff working on artworks projects.
The draft Artworks in Public Places Five-Year Plan is available for public comment until Monday 12 July. Copies of the
