Transit says V8 report good basis for discussion
Transit New Zealand chief executive (acting) Rick Van Barneveld, said he did not intend to engage in disputing the
effects of the proposed V8 races on traffic in Auckland as reported today.
“We have a good working relationship with the Auckland City Council, within which we will work to take this matter
further,” he said.
Mr van Barneveld said Transit has already identified the matters to be addressed during the proposed V8 races.
“The first of these is that the cities directly affected, Auckland, Manukau, Waitakere, North Shore as well as Auckland
Regional Council must support this event,” he said.
“There needs to be a viable and comprehensive plan for traffic management and we are working co-operatively with
Auckland City Council on this. Transit must be assured that all of Auckland will be able to operate.
“Thirdly, we need to be involved in the process,” he said.
“Transit has now received the 24 May Auckland City Council report and it forms a good basis for further discussion,” Mr
van Barneveld said.
