Extra Workshops At The Nathan Homestead
With winter on the way why not get creative and discover a new hobby to keep your life interesting during the colder
months. In June three additional events are planned at the Manurewa Community Arts Centre (Nathan Homestead), each
unique in their own right.
A one-day workshop for Glass Collage with Linley Tuahine will be held on Sunday, 13 June, 10am - 3.00pm. Linley has
adapted the applied art of leadlighting and added a new dimension. Using memorabilia and coloured glass in a collage
process, the student creates a unique work of art that not only looks beautiful, but has meaning.
This is a chance to utilise old bits of china, shells, jewellery, coins, etc. that would normally have no use, and give
them a new life in a personalised work of art. Linley has previously exhibited her work at Nathan Homestead and the
Mangere Arts Outreach, which was enthusiastically received and admired. Her work is in demand and is commissioned from
all over New Zealand.
Mark your calendar for another fabulous Antiques Road Show, scheduled for Tuesday June 15, 7-10pm. Mary Dixon of John
Dixon Antiques returns to Nathan Homestead for another illuminating evening. This is a rare opportunity to have your
treasures valued by antique expert Mary Dixon who has appeared on TV with Mary Lambie & Jim Hickey.
Mary has a long established career in antiques, and for the past 20 years has owned and operated John Dixon Antiques.
Although Mary is an expert in antiques over 100 years old, she has a broad knowledge of all antiques. Don't miss this
unique opportunity to take some of your precious pieces (no more than three transportable items) of china, porcelain,
glass, silver and collectibles, and enjoy seeing and hearing about others' objects too.
Manukau residents have a timely opportunity to develop creative skills of another genre in a one-day workshop entitled
'Tips for a Wonderful Wedding' with professional wedding planner, Janet Cibilich. Learn how to plan for an enjoyable,
stress-free wedding, with topics including theme, budget, flowers, photography, videography, invitations, choosing a
venue, timetables, and much more!
Attendees will receive a personal planning pack (normally valued at $275) and many practical tips for saving costs
without compromising quality. If you're planning a spring or summer wedding, you won't want to miss out on this
value-packed workshop.
The above workshops are just an example of the incredible range of classes and events the Manurewa Community Arts Centre
offers throughout the year. Keep active and interested this winter, discover a new interest, meet new people and keep
the winter blues at bay.
