Search Begins For Pakuranga Idol
Calling all Manukau's young singers. Now is your chance to shine. Manukau City Council's leisure team is giving the city's budding idols a chance to show us what they have got!
Beginning the end of May, Pakuranga Youth Centre will be vibrating to the sounds and moves of Manukau's finest talent as the search begins for a Pakuranga Idol.
Centre Manager, Danny Lama says, "Anyone aged 25 and under is welcome to come along and compete, although it does help to be able to sing in tune! There is no charge to enter, so what have you got to lose. There are two sections, 13 years and under and 14 - 25 years.
"Five heats will be held, running fortnightly on a Friday through to the end of July. Each night five contestants from each section will compete. The first heat is Friday 28th May, followed by 11 June, 25 June, 9 July and 23 July, running from 6.30-10pm and showcasing the coolest, aspiring entertainers in the city.
"One singer from each section will be chosen each night, and the 10 lucky heat winners will perform at the Pakuranga Youth Idol final on 6 August at the Pakuranga Youth Centre. That will be an occasion, not to be missed.
"We are lucky to have Tony Fuemana, a promoter and producer, and NZ Beat Box Champion, Justin Nana as our judges. So come along and get involved, or just watch from the sidelines and let our emerging Manukau stars entertain you."
This is a charitable community event. Entry fee for spectators is $2 for those 19 years and under and $5 for everyone else. Some of the proceeds of this event will be donated to Pakuranga youth working towards The Young New Zealanders' Challenge (Duke of Edinburgh's Award)
