Folkfire to play Cathedral Square
Free Friday Lunchtime Concert, Cathedral Square, Friday April 23rd, 12.15pm to 1.15pm
Taking you on a 'journey into the roots of world music', Folkfire will play a free concert in Cathedral Square this Friday lunchtime, from 12.15pm to 1.15pm
Specialising in Central and Eastern European folk music, Folkfire have been together four years, with members of the band drawn together in 1998 by a passion for the spirit of ethnic European folk tunes.
Beatrice Pritchard plays fiddle, Roger Sanders plays guitar and Grant Knowles plays drums and percussion.
Music performed comes from a rich variety of locations: Croatia, Turkey, Greece, Albania, Armenia, an Romania to name a few.
' We play with warmth and soul in venues ranging from cafes and bars to weddings and outdoor festivals'' says Grant Knowles. 'We've played the Wildfood Festival three times!'
When describing their performances at The Mussel Inn, Golden Bay, owner Andrew Dixon says: ' you can always be confident that Folkfire will in fact fire the folk!'
