Technical work underway on staging Corridor
Giving Aucklanders some certainty on the Eastern Transport Corridor is the number one priority in taking the project
forward, Mayors John Banks and Sir Barry Curtis said today.
“We want the overall route locked down by mid-year,” they said following today’s meeting of the Eastern Transport
Corridor Steering Group.
The two mayors also supported an immediate start on technical work around how the project can be completed in stages.
Once the overall route has been locked down, and there’s a strategy to complete the project in stages, Aucklanders will
have certainty about the future, both short-term and long-term in respect of the corridor.
A report recommending a firm route alignment, staging and related issues of property, funding and consent is due to go
forward from the steering group to respective councils and the Transit New Zealand Board late next month.
