Another link in Auckland’s passenger transport network
“This is not only a special day for Waiheke Island and Auckland City. It is also an important day for the Auckland
region as we mark the upgrade of another link in our integrated passenger transport network,” said Auckland Regional
Council (ARC) Chair, Gwen Bull in her address to guests at the opening of Matiatia Passenger Terminal on Waiheke Island
at the weekend.
The role of the ARC is to coordinate and lead the improvement of the region’s transport networks by providing a core
network of good quality, frequent services that are complemented by other major and local services.
The official opening of Matiatia Passenger Terminal adds another upgraded facility to the region’s passenger transport
network and an attractive link to the developing rapid transit network of rail, bus and ferry services.
The introduction of MAXX Regional Transport to signage and timetable information on the island and at the terminal,
unites Waiheke services with passenger transport across the region.
“Of special importance, MAXX is here to help make it easier for public transport users to find their way around the
region,” says Cr Bull.
Customers are now able to follow MAXX branded signage and on-road information, and use brochures that incorporate both
bus and ferry timetables, to make their way around Waiheke Island and between Matiatia Passenger Terminal and downtown
Auckland.
The MAXX brand was developed by the ARC and is being implemented by passenger transport partners across the region to
introduce consistency and a logical connection between information, infrastructure and rolling stock (trains).
Cr Bull congratulated Auckland City Council on leading the Matiatia upgrade project, highlighting the way in which
progress in transport is being achieved in partnership with the local councils, transport agencies and operators and
central government.
