Statement from Jonah Lomu
Jonah Lomu, special guest of the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union and the International Rugby Board at the Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse First Boston Hong Kong Sevens 2004, has issued the following statement as a clarification of the reporting surrounding his current medical status.
Top international medical experts have advised Jonah Lomu that a transplant offers the best opportunity for a full recovery. Presently, Jonah Lomu is exploring the opportunity of a transplant from several possible donors. The donors in question are not related to Jonah but are close friends.
However, to date, a suitable donor match has not been identified. While there is no guarantee for success medically speaking, Jonah and his wife are hopeful that a suitable donor will be found and that a transplant will be able to be performed within this year.
Jonah Lomu and his wife would like to again thank the media, the spectators at the Hong Kong Sevens 2004 and rugby fans from around the world for their warm support during this time.
