Community invited to see concept design for new Upper Riccarton Library
The draft building design for the new Upper Riccarton Library will be unveiled at a public meeting on Thursday 1 April.
All residents of North West Christchurch are invited to the meeting, between 7pm and 8.30pm, in the Riccarton High
School hall, Curletts Rd, Upper Riccarton.
The draft building design for the new joint-use community and school library due to open in 2005, incorporates
suggestions from the public meeting held in September 2003, from staff and students at Riccarton High and Riccarton
Primary Schools, and from community groups.
A representative from Warren and Mahoney, the architectural company chosen to design the new library, will be at the
meeting to present the design concept and to hear the public’s comments.

Background: The new Upper Riccarton Library, a joint venture between the Christchurch City Council and Riccarton High
School, is planned for completion in December 2005 and will serve about 30,000 residents from the Riccarton, Avonhead,
Ilam, Sockburn, Wharenui and Wigram communities.
The Library will also be the Learning Information and Communication Centre (LINC) for the Riccarton High School
population of about 1,100 students and staff.
The Library will be located on the Riccarton High School grounds fronting Main South Road, with easy and safe access
created for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists. When it is finished, it is predicted that this facility will be the
largest library of its type in Australasia.
