CMJ traffic bulletin: Saturday 20 March until Thursday 25 March
Stage 1 of Transit New Zealand’s Central Motorway Junction upgrade project continues. There are significant closures affecting motorists over the coming week, these are outlined below:
Motorway closures
- All northbound and southbound lanes on the Southern Motorway over the Khyber Pass Viaduct – CLOSED - 12am to 4am on Tuesday 23 March and 12:30am to 4am on Thursday 25 March.
- All northbound lanes on the Southern Motorway over the Khyber Pass Viaduct – CLOSED – from 12am to 4am on Wednesday 24 March.
Detour: for SH1 northbound traffic - off at Khyber Pass off-ramp and on at Wellington Street on-ramp.
Detour: for SH1 southbound traffic - off at Cook Street off-ramp and on at Khyber Pass on-ramp.
Ramp and link closures:
Saturday 20 March
CLOSED – during the day from 6am to 8pm:
- Symonds Street on-ramp (SH1 southbound)
Sunday 21 March
CLOSED – overnight from 8pm to 6am the following morning:
- Symonds Street on-ramp (SH1 southbound)
- Khyber Pass on-ramp (SH1 southbound)
- Wellesley Street on-ramp (SH1 southbound)
- Gillies Ave on-ramp (SH1 northbound)
- Port to Northwestern Motorway link (SH16 westbound)
- Northwestern Motorway to Southern Motorway link (SH16 to SH1 southbound)
Khyber Pass off-ramp (SH1 northbound) - CLOSED – during the day from 8am on Sunday 21 March to 6pm on Monday 22 March.
Monday 22 March
CLOSED – overnight from 8pm to 6am the following morning:
- Hobson Street on-ramp (SH1 southbound)
- Symonds Street on-ramp (SH1 southbound)
- Port on-ramp (SH1 southbound)
- Wellesley Street on-ramp (SH1 southbound)
- Northwestern Motorway to Southern Motorway link (SH1 southbound)
Tuesday 23 March
CLOSED – overnight from 8pm to 6am the following morning:
- Symonds Street on-ramp (SH1 southbound)
- Khyber Pass on-ramp (SH1 southbound)
- Gillies Ave on-ramp (SH1 northbound)
- Port to Northwestern Motorway link (SH16 westbound)
- Wellesley Street on-ramp (SH16 westbound)
- Northwestern Motorway to Southern Motorway link (SH16 to SH1 southbound)
Wednesday 24 March
CLOSED – overnight from 8pm to 6am the following morning:
- Hobson Street on-ramp (SH1 southbound)
- Symonds Street on-ramp (SH1 southbound)
- Port on-ramp (SH1 southbound)
- Wellesley Street on-ramp (SH1 southbound)
- Northwestern Motorway to Southern Motorway link (SH16 to SH1 southbound)
Thursday 25 March
CLOSED – overnight from 8pm to 6am the following morning:
- Symonds Street on-ramp (SH1 southbound)
- Khyber Pass on-ramp (SH1 southbound)
- Gillies Ave on-ramp (SH1 northbound)
- Khyber Pass off-ramp (SH1 northbound)
- Port to Northwestern Motorway link (SH16 westbound)
- Northwestern Motorway to Port link (SH16 Port bound)
- Wellesley Street off-ramp (SH16 city bound)
Local Road Closure:
Khyber Pass Road between motorway ramps – CLOSED - 8pm to 6am on Sunday 21 March, Wednesday 24 March and Thursday 25 March.
There will also be ongoing north and southbound lane closures at night on the Southern Motorway between the Gillies Ave on and off-ramps and the Symonds St over-bridge from Sunday through Thursday nights until 2005.
Please choose alternative on and off-ramps during these times. Motorists are advised that there could be delays.
The CMJ Project
Stage 1 of Transit’s Central Motorway Junction upgrade project covers the section of motorway between the Upper Queen St over-bridge and Gillies Ave on and off-ramps and is scheduled for completion in 2005.
