First stage of Greenlane improvements going to plan
Progress on the first stage of the extensive Greenlane/Great South Road upgrade is running to schedule. The project,
introducing further traffic-management measures on Green Lane East, Peach Parade, Rotomahana Terrace and Grand View
Road, began in late January.
The main work in this area includes traffic-calming measures in Grand View Road and Rotomahana Terrace and installing
traffic lights at the intersection of Peach Parade and Green Lane East.
The traffic-calming measures on Grand View Road and Rotomahana Terrace are being installed to reduce traffic speeds and
discourage use by heavy vehicles and those seeking short cuts. Measures will include adding three speed humps to each
road and narrowing both entrances from Peach Parade with kerb build-ups and median islands.
The installation of traffic lights at the intersection of Peach Parade and Green Lane East will involve removing the
right-hand turn from Peach Parade into Green Lane East. Right turn movements from Green Lane East into Ascot Avenue will
also be banned.
Throughout the general area, facilities for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists will be upgraded, including a number of
additional pedestrian refuges to create safer crossing areas, and landscaping will include red exposed aggregate
concrete footpaths, pedestrian fencing and street trees.
Auckland City is happy with the progress made so far and is doing its best to minimise any inconvenience to those that
live, work and travel through the affected area.
This stage of the Greenlane/Great South Road upgrade is scheduled to finish in June. The next stage will involve
improvements to the Greenlane interchange over the southern motorway. Initial consultation for this stage has taken
place and further communication regarding the consenting process and final design is still underway. Construction is
programmed to start later this year.
