View and comment on options for Eden Epsom recreation area
Everyone is invited to come along and comment on various development options for the Eden Epsom recreation area when
they are displayed at Melville Park Pavilion from 14 March 2004.
The Eden Epsom recreation area comprises three local parks – Windmill Park, Melville Park and Nicholson Park. Open space
areas around Auckland College of Education, Auckland Normal Intermediate School and Kohia Terrace Primary School are
also taken into consideration.
Three public open days will give both locals and wider users of the recreation area the opportunity to view and comment
on different development options, which look to make the best use of the parks and ensure a wide range of leisure
opportunities for people to enjoy. Council officers will be on hand to answer any questions.
The public open days will all take place at Melville Park Pavilion, St Andrews Road on:
- Sun 14 March, 10am - 2pm
- Wed 17 March, 7pm - 8.30pm
- Sat 20 March, 10am - 2pm.
The display will also be visible when the Pavilion is closed and people can comment online at
www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/edenepsom. Another random survey of the community will also take place in March to gain further
comment on the options.
Auckland City is looking at options for the development of a recreation area in Eden/Epsom to enhance the use of open
space and group recreation facilities together.
Auckland City Council’s Recreation and Events Committee chairperson, Councillor Scott Milne, urges people to come down
and take a look at the displays because feedback is an important part of the consultation process.
“Here’s an opportunity to have your say on how the city best maximises the use and access to one of the most beautiful
open space precincts in our city. It’s already a hive of activity and enjoyment but council feels its ongoing
responsibility to improve this treasure.”
Community Boards and council will consider comments received regarding the various development options, and will make a
decision on the final concept plan for the recreation area. Developments will then be progressively programmed through
the annual planning process over the next 5-10 years.
For more information about the proposed Eden Epsom recreation area, or to make a submission, please visit
www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/edenepsom. Submissions close on 29 March 2004.
The second round of consultation and open days are also taking place about the proposal for a Mt Eden centre plan. More
information about this is available at http://www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/mtedencentreplan.
