Work on SH1 from Longswamp to Rangiriri in the Waikato approved
Transfund New Zealand has approved funding for work to reduce fatalities and improve travel on State Highway 1 between Longswamp and Rangiriri in the Waikato.
Transfund agreed yesterday to fund the project at a cost of nearly $6 million. The project comprises building a wire rope median barrier, road widening and adding passing lanes.
Board chair Jan Wright says the project will reduce fatal crashes along this section of highway.
Transfund and the Waikato local authorities support this interim safety measure until the road can be upgraded to four lanes as part of the Waikato expressway, Dr Wright says.
