Contract awarded for Safety Improvements on SH1F at Waipapakauri.
Transit New Zealand has awarded a $1.6M contract to Northland-based McBreen Jenkins Construction Ltd for the realignment of SH1F at Waipapakauri.
Transit Regional Manager, Wayne McDonald, says the work will involve the construction of 1.5 km of road at Waipapakauri approximately 10 km North of Awanui on an improved alignment.
“There have been a number of accidents on this section of SH1F over the years and this realignment will provide a safer and more efficient route as well as a safer SH1F/Ninety Mile Beach Road intersection.”
The work includes approximately 90,000m3 of earthworks to accommodate the new road alignment. It is expected that work will start by early February, with a lay off period over the winter to allow for consolidation of the earthworks foundation in the area of soft ground. It is expected that work will be completed by December 2004.
