Whenuapai submissions close with over 2200 received
“An outstanding response from the local community”, is how NZDF Director of Property Rationalisation, Peter Bollmann describes the result of consultation on the future use options of Whenuapai Air Force Base.
“We have registered some 2257 submissions from individuals and organisations. We are very happy with the response. Clearly many people have taken the time to let us know what they want for the base once it is vacated by NZDF” says Mr Bollmann.
Peter Bollmann says there is a lot of work being done to analyse the submissions and to report back to submitters and community groups. “It is important that people who have taken the time and effort to prepare submissions can see how they are being treated, and how their views will be reported to Government”.
Submissions closed on Friday 16 January 2004 and meetings to provide feedback to the local communities are being arranged for the last two weeks in February.
In the meantime, Defence officials will also be working directly with the local and regional councils to get their views on how Whenuapai can contribute to their objectives for the greater Auckland region.
