Green Lane East gets a wide berth
Traffic congestion along Green Lane East during the working week and weekends will be eased in the new year, following
Auckland City Council’s selection of Blacktop Construction Limited to undertake road widening work.
The work, scheduled to begin in January, will see the section of road between Ascot Avenue and Peach Parade widened to
two lanes in both directions, improving traffic flow and easing congestion in the area. Traffic signals will be
installed at the Green Lane East and Peach Parade intersection.
"The upgrade is part of a $10 million investment by Auckland City in the Greenlane/Great South Road area. Great
improvements have and are continuing to be made between Peach Parade and Cornwall Park, including adjacent parts of
Great South Road. These changes seek to further improve east-west flow for motorists while improving safety for
pedestrians and cyclists," said Councillor Greg McKeown, Transport Committee chairperson.
"We are pleased Transit's $3 million upgrade of the motorway interchange has also been given the green light - the two
projects go hand in glove."
Work along Green Lane East between Ascot Avenue and Peach Parade is expected to take five months and will cost $900,000.
