Celebrate the New Year in WILD style at the zoo!
With music, dance, arts and crafts and culinary delights from all four corners of the globe, Wild New Year on Friday, 2 January (11am – 2.30pm) will be just what it says – WILD!
Make it your resolution to start 2004 by enjoying our all-day non-stop family celebration, culminating in a twilight ASB Bank Zoo Music concert featuring the stunning rhythm and blues sounds of duo Adeaze (5.30pm – 9pm).
“As the zoo has so many international residents, we decided to create our own mini world festival right here. We’ve lined up an amazing melting pot of different aromas, flavours, arts and crafts and sounds,” says Jackie Sanders, Auckland Zoo Events Co-ordinator.
Host for the day, Dr. Dolittle, will be sure to keep the party lively with ‘fun and games’, and he’s got some great prizes for you to be in to win. Watch out for some of his animal ‘character’ friends around the Zoo too!
Be sure to get along to some of our exciting Eye to Eye Encounters featuring some awesome animals in action from around the globe, including African giraffe, South American macaw, Galapagos tortoise, Bornean orangutan, Sumatran tiger, and of course, some native species.
Continuing the global theme, the zoo’s Conservation Fund and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), will be among a number of groups present with some dynamic interactive displays. This will be a great way to learn about the plight of many animals and the incredible initiatives being taken to help them.
To round off a fantastic day, the ASB Zoo Music series continues with the laid-back rhythm and blues sounds of Adeaze (5.30pm – 9pm). Brothers Nainz & Viiz Tupa’i bring an exciting new dimension to the sound of contemporary R music. Their soaring harmonies and emotive music, set off by the magic of the zoo at night, will make sure it’s a night to remember.
Grab a group of friends and a picnic (or purchase yummy food and drink from Darwin’s Café) and come on down to Auckland Zoo for a really wild New Year!
Normal zoo admission charges apply. Friends of the zoo members receive a 20 per cent discount on entry after 4.15pm.
