Fonterra’s decision reflects CBD confidence
“The fact that New Zealand’s largest company, Fonterra, and 600 of its staff are moving into downtown Auckland is a reflection of the country’s high level of confidence in the future of our central business district,” Auckland City Mayor Hon John Banks said today.
The Mayor’s comments come a day after he launched Auckland City’s 10-year draft action plan and strategy to substantially revitalise the CBD and deal with the huge residential and business growth forecast.
“I warmly welcome Fonterra’s consolidation and imminent move to the former KPMG building on Princes Street. Auckland is after all the commercial capital of New Zealand.
“Fonterra has well placed faith in our CBD. Its chief executive will be even more satisfied with his decision when he learns what our plans are.
“This Auckland City Council is committed to dramatically lifting the prospects of our CBD. If we want to be a truly successful multi-cultural and international city, it simply can’t be business as usual.”
Mr Banks said over the coming months the council would work closely with those with a CBD interest and consult widely with the public. He said given Fonterra will be a major stakeholder in the CBD from May next year, he encourages the company’s participation in the project.
