Avondale community plan ready for consultation
Avondale’s draft liveable community plan and framework for consultation was endorsed today by the council’s City
Development Committee.
The liveable community plan, which is open for several months of consultation from 26 November 2003, is part of the
council’s overall growth management strategy. It will guide the future growth of Avondale’s community and will reflect
the distinct local culture and aspirations of the community.
“Avondale has been categorised as a priority one area of change for urban living in the city and its community plan is
an important part of the council’s overall strategy to manage growth,” says Councillor Juliet Yates, chairperson, City
Development Committee.
The liveable community plan is the third out of four stages in Avondale’s overall framework for growth. Already large
amounts of research including focus groups, surveys and stakeholder meetings have been undertaken to analyse Avondale’s
environmental, economic, social and cultural aspects and develop the draft liveable community plan.
“Our research has shown that Avondale is already experiencing significant growth and change and it’s imperative that the
liveable community plan is in place to help manage this,” said Mrs Yates.
Once the liveable plan has been through consultation it will move into its final implementation phase, which may include
changes to the district plan, design and construction of capital works, the establishment of community development
programmes and partnerships with service providers. Ends
