Keeping Hutt's Cycleways Clean
Rebecca Loader, Hutt City Council's Transportation Engineer is urging cyclists finding rubbish and gravel on the city's cycleways to ring Council and report the problem.
"We have noticed a number of letters to the editor complaining about the state of various parts of the cycleway and want to let people know that fixing the problem can be as easy as simply contacting Council," said Rebecca Loader.
"Hutt City's roads are swept on a six weekly basis, but there will be places (the shoulders particularly) that need more work.
"If you see and note them we are more than happy to get a broom or asphalt sweeper out there as quickly as possible.
"Maintenance is easy and there is funding for that."
Cyclists noticing gravel, potholes or other hazards along Hutt roads (or footpaths or cycleways) can email Council at contact@huttcity.govt.nz ,ring us on 570 6666, write to us at Private Bag 31 912, Lower Hutt or request freepost 'fix-a-grams.'
Rebecca also advises cyclists that Council has an informal agreement to look after the Petone onramp footpath.
