Official Celebration to mark the completion of the upgrade of Fendalton Road
Reporters and photographers are cordially invited to attend the official celebration to mark the completion of the
upgrade of Fendalton Road at St Barnabas Church, Fendalton Rd, on Thursday 6 November at 2 pm.
Programme:
2 pm: Welcome: by John Day, St Barnabas Church
The ceremony get underway in St Barnabas church grounds, Fendalton Road, with musical performances from
Fendalton Primary and Medbury Primary Schools.
2.30 pm: Address: by Garry Moore, Mayor of Christchurch
Address: by Cr Denis O'Rourke, Chairman of Sustainable Transport and Utilities Committee
Address: by Mike Wall, Chairman of Waimairi / Fendalton Community Board
Address: by Neill Bennett, Transfund New Zealand Regional Manager
Official Opening: by Garry Moore, Mayor of Christchurch
3 pm: Afternoon tea in St Barnabas church hall
Background:
The upgrade of Fendalton Road started in September last year. The work has been done in stages with the final
landscaping of the road successfully completed last month, within schedule and budget.
Christchurch City Council project manager Kevin Burgess says the upgrade was necessary to meet future traffic needs and
to improve the safety of the road.
"A prime objective was to keep, and enhance, the character of the road as the gateway to Christchurch, through
landscaping and enhancing the historic sites and buildings."
The new road includes a landscaped median, cycle lanes, and visitor parking among the existing trees where possible. The
project also includes providing off-street parking to serve the needs of visitors to St Barnabas Church.
In the event of rain, the celebration will be held in the church hall.
