Contract awarded for realignment of SH10 at Kaingaroa Hill.
Transit New Zealand has awarded a $1.4M contract to Northland-based McBreen Jenkins Construction Ltd for the realignment of SH10 at Kaingaroa Hill.
Transit Regional Manager, Wayne McDonald, says the work will involve the construction of 900m of road on an improved alignment and will include an additional lane for slow vehicles travelling in the uphill direction.
“This section of SH10 has been subject to a number of slips over the years and although these were successfully stabilised last year, the road alignment needs to be restored to meet Transit’s standards,” he says.
Over 100,000m3 of soil will be removed from the hill to accommodate the new road alignment. It is expected that work will start early next month (November) and continue through summer months to allow the contractor to take advantage of the better weather conditions. It is expected that work will be completed by April 2004.
