Opening of Wellesley Street Bridge delayed
Transit New Zealand advises all motorists that the new Wellesley Street Bridge in Grafton Gully will not open today (Monday 6 October), as planned due to delays caused by inclement weather.
The bridge will now open on the next clear day, when final works to ready the bridge for traffic have been completed.
When open, the new bridge will provide direct access between Wellesley Street and Grafton Road and allow access to new on-ramps to the Southern (SH1 - southbound) and Northwestern (SH16 - westbound) motorways. A new right turn from the existing SH1 Wellesley St. off-ramp to Grafton Road will also be opened.
Motorists are advised to take extra care driving as they adjust to the changes. Transit thanks all motorists for their co-operation.
These changes are part of ongoing work on the Grafton Gully project, which is scheduled for completion in December.
For more information regarding the changes, please phone 0800 TO FREEFLOW (863 733) or visit the public information centre on the corner of Alten and Stanley St, Grafton.
