The independent hearings commissioners, appointed on behalf of the Greater Wellington Regional Council, have released their decision today on the application from the Lyall Bay Reef Charitable Trust to construct an artificial surf reef for recreational purposes in Lyall Bay, Wellington.
The commissioners, Alistair Aburn, Dr Ian Stewart and Aka Arthur, have decided to grant the application with conditions, which include minimising environmental effects, monitoring of the beach system and the development of a safety plan with interested parties. The coastal permits have been granted for 35 years.
Copies of the decision can be requested from Consents Management Department, Greater Wellington Regional Council.
