MP charged over tractor protest
MP Shane Ardern will be summonsed to appear in the Wellington District Court charged with disorderly behaviour.
Inspector Marty Grenfell, Wellington Area Police Controller, says the MP was advised this morning that he will face court action following his actions last week when he twice drove a tractor up the steps of Parliament during a farmers’ protest.
Mr Grenfell says "the investigation has been treated no differently to any other stunt committed during protest action in recent months"
Meanwhile police are still looking for a man who rode a motorcycle up Parliament’s steps during the same protest. A Parliamentary security officer intervened to prevent the rider from reaching the top of the stairs.
"We’re very interested in hearing from anyone who can help us identify the person concerned," Mr Grenfell says.
