Mayor to view school’s recycling programmes
Christchurch Girls’ High School’s environmental programmes will be examined by Christchurch Mayor Garry Moore this
Friday, 29 August, when he visits the school between 1.30 and 2.30pm.
Reporters and photographers are also invited to come to the school to see the students’ initiatives in plastics and
paper recycling and hear their plans for Clean Up New Zealand Week ( 15-21 September ).
The school’s paper recycling scheme was set up in 2002 and its plastics recycling scheme in 2003, with encouragement
from the Christchurch City Council, through Keep Christchurch Beautiful.
A series of events is being planned by Christchurch Girls’ High School for Clean Up New Zealand Week 2003 as part of a
campaign to raise awareness of litter and environmental issues. These will include a special student-run assembly and
focus on a school-wide clean up.
The School has also entered its plastics recycling scheme in Clean Up New Zealand Week’s nationwide ‘Reduce Your
rubbish’ competition.
