Coffee stall a city first

A Hillcrest couple have been granted a one-year trial to operate an espresso coffee and drinks stand by the car park at
Milford Beach.
The mobile stand will be the size of a small caravan, made of high quality materials and painted black with gold
lettering. The licensees say the only noise will be from the "quiet spray of steam" as the milk from the coffees is
frothed, and the only smell will be from the aroma of fresh coffee brewing.
A meeting of the North Shore City Council's community services and parks committee was told this week that the stand,
mounted on a purpose-built trailer, will be a "giant leap from a greasy old pie cart".
Committee chairperson, Margaret Miles, says the venture has the support of the local Takapuna Community Board, and is
expected to provide a welcome and refreshing service to beach-goers.
"It will offer other hot and cold drinks and a small range of confectionery, and will add much to the beach experience,"
she says.
Operators Sharon and Greg Knight will provide two rubbish bins and will clean up the immediate area regularly, and after
operating from 9am to 6pm, will remove the coffee stand on its trailer for the night.
"The trial will be the first of its type for North Shore City," says Councillor Miles, "and coffee lovers can expect
their first latte in the summer," she says.
