Environmental Expo in Russell
Gathering of ecological ideas and minds
Best methods of protecting the environment in the Far North will be on show at the Russell Town Hall and Village Green on Saturday and Sunday, 2-3 August.
This event has grown strongly over the past three years and is now proving to be a regular attraction at the launch of Conservation Week.
Ideas will be shared on alternative energy, biodynamics, building materials, coastal management, environmental groups, use of herbs in the home, native flora and fauna protection, organic food, permaculture, pest control, wastewater management and water quality – including a guest appearance by a real, live kiwi. Snoopy, from Bird Rescue in Whangarei, has appeared at the first two Environmental Expos with his minder Robert and proved a great attraction.
Workshops on such topics as building with natural materials and the many uses of herbs will take place throughout the day, starting at 10am. Lucky door prizes will be drawn throughout the day. For the children there will be various games involving recycling and other environmental messages.
If there is sufficient interest and dependent upon the weather, a Night Walk listening to Kiwi and other wildlife will take place – including the possibility of seeing glow-worms.
For those with a products or services which look after the environment there are still a few stalls available and would-be exhibitors are urged to contact Enterprise Russell on 09 403 8843 urgently.
