Help For Emerging Musicians At Otara Music Arts Centre
The Otara Music Arts Centre (OMAC) will be holding two special workshops in August and September to assist musicians
who want to access NZ on Air funding.
Manukau City Council's Programme Co-ordinator Ruth Thompson says "OMAC wants to be at the forefront of promoting New
Zealand Music. You do not have to have a 'label' to access NZ on Air funding. A home recording tape is sufficient to
start the journey as an artist."
The workshops have been designed to help emerging musicians and groups and producers of music videos. On 1st August and
12 September, NZ on Air staff will be available to answer your questions and help you complete funding application
forms.
A second workshop "All for You" has been designed to help established musicians in the competitive music industry. The
workshop focuses on marketing, recording, stage performance that will bring out the X-factor and dance techniques to
bring performances to life.
New classes introduced by OMAC this term include a Hip Hop class teaching the latest urbane dance moves. Tutor Jet is a
choreographer who creates her own unique moves. The class is split into two categories - children and adult sessions.
Another new concept is the Drumming Duo class with Cory Poutapu. This fun interactive class allow friends and family to
learn and jam together.
OMAC also offers group piano lessons this term. This allows the centre to offer quality tutors at an affordable rate.
Each student will have their own piano and will learn basic theory and practical skills. Group sizes will be limited to
three per session and will culminate in an end of term concert.
