Auckland City Council hands over keys to Britomart
The new Britomart Transport Centre plays host to a special signing ceremony today. Auckland City Council hands over the management of the Britomart Transport Centre to Auckland Regional Transport Network Limited (ARTNL).
From Monday 7 July, ARTNL will operate and manage Britomart on behalf of the council.
Auckland City Mayor, Hon John Banks says the signing ceremony and handing over of keys is an historic occasion and another step forward. “I have confidence in ARTNL’s ability to run the Britomart Transport Centre to a world-class standard.”
Mr Ross Keenan, ARTNL Chairman, says Britomart is a transport centre that any city in the world would be proud to have as the hub of its passenger transport network.
“ARTNL is delighted to be the entity chosen on behalf of the region’s territorial authorities to lease the Britomart Transport Centre from Auckland City Council,” says Ross Keenan. “I believe the arrival of the first train at the Centre on Monday is the first step in lifting demand for public passenger transport in our region. We will progressively develop every opportunity to continue growing this demand, not only through this great asset, but through the continuing upgrade of the regional rail network infrastructure.”
