Randwick Park Community House Introduces New Co-ordinator
Did you know that Manukau City Council has seven community houses throughout the city for use by residents? Randwick Park Community House, situated in Shifnal Drive and one of three in the ward of Manurewa, has a new co-ordinator who is keen to enlist others to use the facilities.
Janice Thompson, the newly appointed Co-ordinator, is also a Pastor with Harvest Baptist Church Manukau. Mrs Thompson is well equipped to work in a role where she is dealing with people every day. She has previously worked in roles helping young people, including Group Special Education with a special needs child, and also as a relieving teacher at St Paul's Early Discoveries Centre. She is excited about the opportunity to work within the community, doing something she loves.
Janice says, "My new role involves networking with as many community groups as possible to inform them firstly that the community house exists, and also to encourage them to take advantage of the programmes and facilities. Our rooms are also available for hire seven days a week at very reasonable rates."
Janice would like to see the House become a busy and safe place for local community groups and people to come and she would love to see more community programmes run here.
The House has a main hall, kitchen facilities, a large entertainment room, a school room and a small room for hire as well as a playground for children to use. At present church groups, a men's group, schools, pre-school and youth groups use the facility, however it has the capacity to cater for many more.
The rooms at Randwick Park House are light, airy and sunny and a pleasant location for community groups to meet and carry out their activities. With kitchen facilities available, and a knowledgeable helpful person on site to help things run smoothly, the community house is the perfect venue for a range of community activities.
Janice is keen to emphasise that because the house is there to serve the needs of the community, the costs are nominal. The Main Hall which is able to hold 45 people, starts at $15 for 4 hours. That's just $3.75 an hour and furthermore groups can hire the amenities for use between 9am and 10pm any day of the week. The other rooms include, the School Room with a capacity of 20 at $15 per session, and the Small Room which can hold 25 and costs $15.
Please ring for more information or call in and see the venue and advise Janice the types of courses you would like run at Randwick Park House. Janice is very open to ideas and some of hers include courses on budgeting, flax weaving and driver licensing.
