ARC draft Annual Plan hearings start with nearly 600 submissions to consider
The ARC starts the process of hearing submissions to its draft Annual Plan on Tuesday (20th May) morning and will adopt
the final plan on 23 June.
Before starting the first session Auckland Regional Council Chair, Gwen Bull said, “ we have an enormous amount of work
to do over the coming weeks. The number of submissions and the variety of issues and subjects raised in them are a huge
increase on previous years. I would like to thank the community for their interest and assure them that we will consider
all submissions before making our final decisions. We will not be able to satisfy everyone however. For example, all of
the city and district councils have submitted and each has his their view on our proposals and they are not all in
agreement with each other. This is one of the reasons we have a regional council, to consider the needs of the region as
a whole and not just one part of it.”
Hearing of submissions is scheduled for 20, 21, and 27 and with deliberations due to start on the afternoon of the 28
and to continue on the 29 and 30 May. The Auckland Regional Council Annual Plan for 2003/4 is scheduled for adoption on
23 June.
