New look for two Christchurch City Libraries
The Mobile Library and Hornby Library will both receive a facelift during May and June.
This will be the first refurbishment of the Mobile Library in 13 years, Christchurch City Libraries 0utreach and Special
Needs Manager, Erina Parks says
“It will be great to have a fresh new look. Unfortunately it means we will have to take the mobile bus off the road but
we are doing as much as we can to minimize this inconvenience. We know how valuable this service is to our customers.”
The Mobile Library will be closed from 19 May to 22 June and will resume its normal timetable on Monday 23 June.
Customers are being encouraged to take out extra books before the closure and those who have requested reserves will be
contacted to find the best option for them to collect their items. Return boxes will still be cleared weekly and special
arrangements have been made for customers who use the talking book service.
Hornby Library customers will soon be able to enter the library through new automatic doors as well as enjoy more
pleasant surroundings including new flooring, paint and better displayed items.
The Library will be closed 19 May to 15 June so the changes can be made. Hornby Community Librarian Roberta MacLean says
“We’re excited about the improvements. We’ll be able to offer our customers a much more attractive place to visit and
spend their time.”
Hornby Library customers are being encouraged to collect reserves from Fendalton Library or phone 941 7923 to organise a
different collection point. Longer loan periods have also been applied to any items taken out from Hornby Library from
the end of April so that items do not need to be returned until after the library re-opens. Items can still be returned
at the library.
