Life through the lens in Manukau
Amateur photographers have the chance to capture places, spaces and occasions that make up the diversity and
personality of life in Manukau City.
The inaugural Manukau Arts Photographic Competition has the theme of 'Tomorrow's Manukau - through today's lens' and has
five categories - People, Places, Nature, an Open section and a junior Open section.
Each section has a prize of $500 except the junior Open section (13 years and under) for which the prize is a family
pass to Rainbow's End. Schools are being encouraged to have their pupils enter the competition.
The Mayor of Manukau City, Sir Barry Curtis, said the aim of the competition is to encourage Manukau residents to
capture on film images of the city's vibrant communities and natural surroundings.
"They can provide an insight into the distinctive personality of our city," said Sir Barry, "and to capture people's
aspirations of what they want Manukau to be as a place to live now and in the future."
A judging panel - with guest judge, the Mad Butcher - will select the top entries which will go on display at Nathan
Homestead from June 20-July 4 and the Mangere Art Centre from July 8-July 24.
Judges will be looking for photographic creativity and something special, which gives the photograph character and has
an immediate impact on the viewer.
The competition is sponsored by the Manukau City Council in conjunction with the Manukau Photographic Society.
