Buena Vista Latin Sounds with Ritmo Latino
FREE Friday Lunchtime Concert, Friday 28th March, Cathedral Square, 12.15pm to 1.15pm
A new 9 piece Latin ensemble called Ritmo Latino will be entertaining lunchtime audiences this Friday in Cathedral Square from 12.15 to 1.15pm.
Based in Christchurch, the band is comprised of a 3 part brass section, trumpet, trombone, saxophone, plus 3 percussionists, conga, bongo, Timbales a double bass piano and vocals!
With a Latin style evoking 'The Beuna Vista Social Club', Ritmo Latino specialize in Cuban, Puerto Rican, and Dominican music including the styles of Rumba, Salsa, Bolero, Mambo and Afro-Cuban Jazz.
Members of the group come from a wide range of musical disciplines including Cuban, Jazz and Operatic.
Band leader Gilles Nantel is a Canadian percussionist who moved to New Zealand in 2001. Gilles studied in Cuba in the city of Havana, and played for many years throughout North America.
With music to dance - or listen - to, Ritmo Latino bring an international flavour to the FREE Friday Lunchtime Concert Series.
