You be the judge! Come along and vote for the best ideas for Tamaki Drive.
Ideas submitted by professional designers for the development of Auckland’s Tamaki Drive will be displayed for public
comment from 26 March to 4 April 2003.
People are encouraged to come along and comment on the designs and indicate their favourite concept. An assessment panel
will consider the public feedback and decide on a competition winner.
The display is part of an Auckland City design competition, which was promoted via the Auckland City website
www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/tamakidrive.
Auckland City’s open space planner, Peter Matthews, says the competition aims to inspire dialogue about the future look
and feel of the area. The intention of this part of the process was not to come up with a detailed design plan.
“The Tamaki Drive coastal area, which runs from Quay Street to Archiles Point, is one of Auckland’s key regional
attractions. Obviously any plan to develop the Eastern Corridor would affect Tamaki Drive. By holding the competition
now, we will be able to provide ideas and guidance to the Eastern Transport Corridor planners when they begin to start
looking at design and landscape issues”.
The ideas generated from the competition and subsequent public feedback will be explored and a more detailed design for
Tamaki Drive prepared for further public consultation late this year, says Mr Matthews.
Displays for public comment will be held at: The Britomart Display Centre, 122 Quay Street from 26 – 29 March 2003,
8.30am to 5pm weekdays and 10am to 4pm Saturday. The Eastern Suburbs Soccer Clubrooms, Maddills Farm, Baddeley Avenue,
Kohimarama, 31 March - 2 April 2003, 10am to 4pm and 3 – 4 April 2003, 10am to 7pm.
The winner of the $3,000 first prize will be announced at an awards celebration on 8 April 2003.
