Saturday Action on PAM Spraying

Published: Fri 7 Feb 2003 06:25 PM
Date of Action: Saturday 8th February Time: 9.30am Where: Newington Road (Great North Road end), Henderson.
The Western leader - 6/2/3002 "The head of the painted apple moth aerial spray campaign won't commit himself to the government-imposed deadline for the project.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry's (MAF) painted apple moth project director Ian Gear isn't quite so sure.
Mr Gear is unsure whether the project will finish by April.
"Let's wait and see," he says. The entire operation is budgeted to end in 2005."
Outraged residents having read this in the local newspaper The Western Leader, will take to the streets tomorrow with a promise of action. Many are frustrated, concerned, disgusted & extremely angry at the latest news from MAF.
"This is our health we are talking about. I've just found out I will be faced with spraying on or near my house, 4 times in the next 12 days. This must end now. Thousands of people are ill from this spray, the spray campaign is clearly not working, the alternatives are there. This isn't good enough, it's quite simply criminal. What do we have to do to make them listen ?" says Rachel Wapenaar.
