Council plays key role in international conference
Waitakere City’s experiences in developing urban centres and neighbourhoods will be on show at the second Australasian urban design conference in Auckland from March 20 – 22.
Waitakere City Council is one of the convenors and sponsors of Urbanism downunder 2003, a conference that will harness the experiences of a wide range of professionals from around the world in the art and science of transforming cities. A host of guest speakers from the UK, USA and Australia will also be presenting.
The conference will illustrate the mix of professional skills - such as urban design, architecture, landscape design, planning, economics, transport, community development and communications - needed to create liveable towns and cities.
Waitakere’s practical experiences in implementing New Urbanism principles will be examined and include such projects as Harbourview in Te Atatu Peninsula and integrating art into civic spaces generally.
Around 400 people will be attending, including design and planning professionals, members of the development industry (developers, builders, financiers, real estate agents and marketers), government agency representatives, academics and students and the general public.
For more information on Urbanism downunder 2003, phone Vanita Ranchhod at Waitakere City Council on 836 8000, ext 8660 or email: vanita.ranchhod@waitakere.govt.nz
