Cool Classes for Manukau’s kids
Manukau City Council’s art centres are now accepting Term One enrolments for a wide range of art and music classes.
Council’s arts events co-ordinator Leisa Siteine says that they’ve had great demand for their teen drama, piano classes
and dance programmes. “While these classes are filling fast, we have a huge range of other programmes you can enrol in.
Enrolments are now open and most classes begin in the first week of February.
“Nathan Homestead’s kids photography class is a great opportunity for children to learn from a professional photographer
who relates well to youngsters. 'Bug man' Don Campbell is holding a five week course just for kids on Thursday evenings.
Don got his nickname through his passion for all things with six or more legs!,” says Ms Siteine.
Tutor, Cath Te Reo has returned to Nathan Homestead, and is again offering her popular pre-school music and movement
class. This year the students will also receive a snack after the class to help unwind.
Another class increasing in popularity is Cartoon and Storyboard Art, taught by Nooroa Te Hira. “This is a very focused
class, perfect for children aged six to thirteen to develop their art skills and their ability to draw or caricature
everyday objects. Nooroa is a professional storyboard artist and illustrator.”
The Otara Music Arts Centre has on offer two drama classes for 5-8 year olds and 9-12 year olds. Tutor, Tane Davis will
help your child to build confidence and have fun. Tane’s class includes exercises and games for beginners through to
advanced improvisation. Students will work towards a brief act for the end of term concert in Term 2.
Other kids’ classes at OMAC include singing and guitar workshops.
