Manukau’s Keen Teens Wanted!
Looking for something fun and exciting to do outdoors these holidays? How about sea kayaking, or testing your mountain biking skills on off-road tracks? Could you build and race your own raft, or spend a day sailing?
Get into outdoor action with Manukau City Council’s Manukau On The Move team. Their one week Teen Extreme programme offers a range of outdoor adventure pursuits for 12 to 16 year olds. Running from Monday 20th to Friday 24th January participants can select which days they want to attend or for the really keen, attend the whole week!
Programme co-ordinator, Judith Harris, says ‘This programme will suit enthusiastic teenagers who are keen to take up the challenge of sailing, swimming, mountain biking, and kayaking. A new activity this year is a challenging day of surf lifesaving action at Sunset Beach, Port Waikato with the Trust Waikato Surf Club.”
Monday sees teens building and racing their own rafts, Tuesday is an exciting day of Optimist class sailing and water skill activities. Wednesday is off-road mountain biking madness, and Thursday sees participants discovering the Auckland coastline by sea kayak. The week finishes with the surf lifesaving day on the Friday.
All specialist equipment and qualified instruction is provided. Pick up and drop off points are in Howick and Papatoetoe. Cost is $35 per day or $150 for the whole week. Extra $10 for bike hire on the mountain biking day. Interested teens should phone 274 6904 for more information and registration details.
