Happy Birthday Clendon Community Centre
Manukau City Council’s Clendon Community Centre turns ten this year and everyone is invited to the celebrations from
14-20 December.
Centre Manager, Paul Chidzero says "The Centre has been a focal point in the Clendon Community for ten years. We want to
thank the people for their support by inviting them to the special activities and events we have planned."
The celebrations kick off on Saturday 14th with a carnival day in partnership with the Manurewa Festival 2002, during
which Mayor of Manukau, Sir Barry Curtis will officiate at the cake cutting ceremony. This is followed by the official
opening of the new Clendon Skate Park located next to the Community Centre.
Paul says "Visitors can check out an aerobics blaster class, facepainting, fire engine and carnival rides, food and
market stalls, story-time, take part in a free workout at our new fitness centre, or view the art competition entries."
There will be plenty of prizes and chances for people to win by participating in the many activities planned. Spot
prizes are also up for grabs and entertainment featuring Ardijah, Qwik N Ezy and Urban Beat between noon and 5.00pm.
The celebrations continue throughout the week with a gymnastics open day on Monday, commemorative tree planting ceremony
at noon on Tuesday, through to the school holiday programme on Thursday and Friday where there will be competitions with
heaps of prizes and give-aways.
The teenagers have not been forgotten with the Nite Crew fastball competition at 7pm on Thursday night and the Youth
Sports Challenge between 6.00 and 9.00pm on Friday.
