Puhinui Traffic Diversion
Transit New Zealand advises all motorists travelling in the Puhinui Road area that from Thursday 10 October, a traffic diversion will be in place around the Puhinui roundabout.
The diversion will open on the night of Thursday 10 October, and will mean that all northbound traffic travelling between Manukau City centre and Mangere Bridge will be diverted off State Highway 20 and onto a temporary road.
All movements will still be possible in the area but the speed limit on the diversion will be 70km/hr. Some delays are expected, particularly during peak periods.
The diversion will not affect southbound traffic. All motorists should take care when travelling in the area, and are advised to consider taking alternative routes.
The diversion will be in place until mid December, and is needed to allow new northbound lanes to be constructed.
The work is part of Transit’s Puhinui interchange project, which will result in a new full-grade separated intersection separating traffic on State highway 20 from local traffic on Puhinui Road. The project aims to reduce excessive delays and congestion at the existing roundabout as well as reduce the number of accidents in this area.
The project in its entirety is scheduled for completion by the end of 2003.
