PROPOSED NEW SOUTHERN LANDFILL
Northland College Forestry Land, Kaikohe
The Far North District Council would like to advise that initial consultation regarding the above proposed new landfill is about to commence. The purpose of this initial consultation phase is to identify any issues that the community may have with regard to a landfill at this site.
Information is available on the FNDC website www.fndc.govt.nz and from FNDC Services Centres at Kaikohe, Kaitaia, Kaeo, Kerikeri, Kawakawa & Rawene, and the Information Centre at Paihia.
The FNDC has contacted various interest groups and will be holding public meetings over the next two months. The community and other interested parties are invited to obtain further information and advise FNDC if they have any issues with regard to the proposed landfill.
Should you require any further information, wish to make a submission, or would like your details added to the mailing list for future information, then please contact:

The Ministry for the Environment has put out a new public discussion paper on the HSNO Act and GE. You can use the link below to view the paper or request a hard copy to be sent to you (easier reading!!) email: HSNOamend@mfe.govt.nz Phone: (04) 917 7400 or write to: HSNO Amendment, Ministry for the Environment, PO Box 10-362, Wellington.
It's very important we get as many submissions challenging this as possible (the government is pushing conditional and commercial release of GE organisms and ignoring the serious environmental and liability issues)
I have requested hard copies to go to all the public libraries and environment centres in Northland and am working on organising public meetings in Whangarei, Kerikeri, Kaikohe, Paihia and Kaitaia (at the very least).
Cheers
Zelka

Readers may be interesed in WRIDDNZ, an information support network - which stands for Work relatedness injury disease and death in New Zealand. It focuses on the ways human activity (work) can have on individual and public health. I am primarily focused with work in Northland relative to the use of 245-T and 24-D and the relationship between elevated soil dioxin levels and the poor health statistics in Northland. We welcome your suggestions, advice of activities, promotion of events -- anything green or environmentally-friendly in Auckland or Northland. In response to a suggestion we will endeavour to put new items in bold, so that people don't need to read items that were published the previous issue. Do you want us to omit items after they've been in one issue? Or two issues?

Has anyone heard about a proposal whereby the rubbish from the Far North will all soon be taken to Auckland (Redvale Landfill)?
