Inorganic collection dates changing
The North Shore City Council is changing the dates of some inorganic collections to reduce the risk of unsightly rubbish
mounting up over the summer.
North Shore City works and environment committee chairperson, Joel Cayford says the aim is to keep coastal areas, beach
walkways and access roads, and major shopping centres clear of inorganic rubbish between November 15, 2002 and March 1,
2003.
"It makes sense to change the collection dates and have the city looking its best particularly with the America's Cup on
and the influx of visitors we are expecting," Councillor Cayford says.
"We do not want a repeat of the shameful actions of a few people who illegally dumped their rubbish in Sunnynook
recently, creating an eyesore and a safety problem at a time when our city is potentially on show to the rest of the
world."
The inorganic collection dates have changed as follows: * No collections in coastal areas, near beach walkways and
access roads or near major shopping centres between November 15, 2002 and March 1, 2003; and * No collections city-wide
between December 15, 2002 and February 7, 2003.
North Shore City's waste minimisation team leader, Michelle Kaczor, says the council has attempted to minimise
disruption to the existing collection schedule, but that people should not assume their next collection date
automatically follows on from adjacent areas.
"People should only put out their inorganic rubbish once they have received a collection notice in their letterbox," she
says.
"Alternatively people can contact Actionline on 486 8600 or access our website at www.nscc.govt.nz and use the rubbish
search to find out when the next collection is for their street."
North Shore City Council is also encouraging residents to report any illegal dumping activity including vehicle
registration numbers to help prevent rubbish mountains appearing.
