Garden Competition to Help Make Clendon Beautiful
The Manukau Beautification Trust and Housing New Zealand are working together to help make Clendon beautiful.
Both organisations are combining to offer residents the opportunity to discover how to not only prepare their gardens
for this year’s Manukau Best Streets and Gardens competition but to also offer advice on how to grow produce that can be
eaten.
Trust Chairman, Mark Beale, is encouraging locals to come along to St Elizabeth’s on Tuesday 1 October to hear gardening
tips from gardening guru, Dale Harvey.
“From 6.30pm to 8.30pm you can find out about how to get your garden looking its best for the competition and also how
your gardens can be edible as well as beautiful! This is a great way we can contribute to the aims of the Clendon
Community Renewal Project. Beautifying our gardens is one way we can make our community look and feel wonderful.”
Plant seedlings will be given away to families to start their own gardens. Prize vouchers to purchase gardening products
from the Warehouse will be given away and a free B.B.Q will be kindly sponsored by the Mad Butcher.

MANUKAU BEAUTIFICATION TRUST
The Trust has taken over the work of the Keep Manukau Beautiful committee and contracts to Manukau City Council for
graffiti and beautification work.
CLENDON COMMUNITY RENEWAL PROJECT
Community Renewal is a Housing New Zealand programme that works with local residents, Manukau City Council and other
government agencies to promote safe, healthy and confident communities.
The project is about improving the quality of life for individuals, families and the Clendon community. It wants to
build a strong community spirit.
It’s all about giving residents the opportunity to participate in projects that will address the problems that are
important to them. Issues like increasing crime, negative images of Clendon, employment, health, education and safety
can all be looked at.
Clendon is one of three areas in New Zealand running this programme. Fiordlands in Rotorua and Aranui in Christchurch
are the other two.
