The Prime Minister, Helen Clark will officially launch a new arts website http://www.thebigidea.co.nz at an Auckland breakfast function on Friday 27 September.
The website is a key part of a plan to create work and income opportunities for artists, designers, actors, musicians and has the potential to link business and commercial interests with the cultural sector.
It has been created under the auspices of The Artwork’s Project - an Auckland Arts Employment Strategy and is supported by Creative New Zealand, the Department of Work and Income, Artists Alliance, Auckland New Ventures and Auckland City Council.
Users are presented with an informative, simple-to-navigate “one stop shop” that provides an unprecedented compilation of material relevant to employment and support resources for the arts industry.
The chairman of Creative New Zealand, Peter Biggs says, “The website is a real showcase of the collective ingenuity of a number of people and will provide an important tool in the linking of talent to opportunity”.
“It is the first initiative in providing regional commissioners nation-wide with working models of how they could utilise the arts, culture and creative industries sectors to address their own region’s employment priorities”.
